Picnic day

LAWR showcases its projects, faculty, and students at Picnic Day surrounded by the beautiful architecture of its home in the Plant and Environmental Sciences Building.

Soil scientists encourage kids of all ages to “paint” with the varying textures and colors of the earth’s “dirt,” and LAWR students and faculty hand out small bags of rich, organic compost to passers-by.

Atmospheric scientists blow up hot air balloons and offer science shows highlighting the atmospheric processes.

And hydrologists tell stories of water’s power and influence through demonstrations, live experiment and video presentations.

Picnic Day gives the community a chance to celebrate its amazing resources – Land, Air and Water!

Dean’s Office Fall Welcome Barbecue

Transfer students and freshmen in Environmental Science majors, which includes LAWR students majoring in ATM, ERS, HYD, and SWS, attend a celebration in their honor. They meet faculty, advisers, and other students. In addition to enjoying a yummy meal, they participate in tug-of-wars and win cool prizes donated by departments in a raffle.

LAWR Fall Welcome

LAWR hosts annual all-inclusive Fall Welcome in early October at the Plant and Environmental Sciences building courtyard and lobby. Graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and staff enjoy an array of pizzas, mingling, and introductions of advisers by Department Chair Jan Hopmans. They are also treated to the sounds of a home-grown musical combo, which includes LAWR graduate students.
