AMS 35th Conference on Agricultural and Forest Meteorology/6th Conference on Atmospheric Biogeosciences

Congratulations to Olmo Guerrero Medina and Chitra Chopra, PhD students in Atmospheric Sciences in the Biomicrometeorology research team of Kosana Suvočarev and Kyaw Tha Paw U. They were awarded first and second prizes, respectively, for their poster presentations at the AMS 35th Conference on Agricultural and Forest Meteorology/6th Conference on Atmospheric Biogeosciences. The awards committee noted that Olmo’s first prize winning presentation “A critical analysis of the surface renewal method for scalar flux estimation,” identified “…some of the challenges of the surface renewal method” and they “found your discussion about the importance of the shape of the structure function quite interesting.” The awards committee noted that Chitra’s second prize winning presentation, “Flux footprint models: incorporating new parameters,” showed “potential improvements to flux footprints.” The committee continued, “The inability of footprint models to account for the vertical distribution of sources and sinks is a longstanding shortcoming and your modeling-based approach has the potential to provide critical insights that could help overcome this limitation.”  The prizes include recognition certificates and prize checks.  These American Meteorological Society conferences were held in Minneapolis, MN from May 1st to May 4th 2023, and had over 200 participants. Please join us in congratulating Olmo and Chitra!
