Terra Rosa
Terra Rosa This is a soil formed in limestone in the Judean hills of Israel. Terra Rosa is the name given to the soil by Israeli soil scientists. You can see the white limestone fragments and bedrock protruding from the soil profile. The two major characteristics to observe are the thick dark A horizon and the shallow depth to rock (R). Each square on the tape is 10 cm. The red or orange coloration is from iron released by the weathering of iron-bearing minerals in the limestone.
