Rio Grande Clayey Entisol
Rio Grande Clayey Entisol This dark, stratified clay textured soil is found in the flood plain of the Rio Grande near Las Cruces New Mexico. The clay texture is not due to formation of clay in place or illuviation. It is the result of a clay-textured parent material deposited by the river. The stratification visible in the lower half of the profile is evidence of the deposition. Note the many roots in the upper part of the profile.
