Rendzina Profile	This shallow soil over chalk is a Rendzina in the Israeli soil classification system. It is an Entisol in the US system of soil taxonomy. The A horizon is too pale colored to be a Mollisol and there is no subsoil accumulation of clay, iron or carbonate. The soil is about 50 cm thick over the chalk. It supports a mixture of trees and grasses. The chalk is soft, and it holds water that plants can utilize.
