Minnesota Spodosol
Minnesota Spodosol This is a picture of another Spodosol. It has a thin A horizon, underlain by a thin E horizon. Below the E is a thick zone of illuviated iron. Note the red colors. This soil is formed in glacial outwash in north-central Minnesota. Note that the zero depth on the tape does not start at the top of the pit. This is because of material thrown on the actual surface during digging. The top of this profile is the top of the A horizon.
