Loess-Paleosol Complex
Loess-Paleosol Complex The thin modern soil overlies two paleosols. Each paleosol represents a period of time when that part of the sequence was at the earth's surface. The dark colors identify the paleosols. Each is what remains of a full profile. In this sequence, what remains is Bt horizons. What buried these soils? In this location in Central Israel, dust covered the soils. The dust became new parent material for additional soil formation. This is a similar process to what has occurred in China and many other parts of the world.
