Fresno Series
Fresno Series The Fresno series is a shallow soil with an accumulation of clay over a carbonate and silica cemented hard pan. In addition, it is both saline (high electrical conductivity of the saturation extract) and sodic (high sodium content). Amazingly, this soil has been ripped to break apart the clay and cemented horizons, artificially drained to remove salts and sodium and now many thousands of hectares are productively farmed in the San Joaquin valley. The bottom of the pit is on top of the hard pan. The light color is the E horizon that sits above the clay accumulation (Bt horizon).
