Master’s Degree Requirements

Students working toward a master’s degree must be registered in residence for at least three quarters and maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above. Usually, all work for the master’s degree is done in residence on the Davis campus. With the consent of the graduate adviser and the dean of Graduate Studies, however, some work taken elsewhere may be credited toward your degree. For more information on transferring credit please see http:

You must file an official application for Advancement to Candidacy after completion of at least one half of the course requirements for the degree and at least one quarter before completion of all degree requirements.

A master’s degree may be awarded upon completion of one of two basic plans in which either a thesis (Plan I) or a comprehensive examination (Plan II) is required.
