What’s in Your Water? (Galway, Ireland: June 28—July 25, 2009)
Instructor: Stefan Wuertz (swuertz@ucdavis.edu) Courses: ECI 148A and 198
Based in Galway, the cultural center in the west of Ireland, this program provides students with a practical sense of the commonalities and differences between the warm and arid region of California and the mild but wetter conditions found in Ireland. We will study the scientific principles that can guide sustainable development of coastal regions and inland watersheds. The course is aimed at engineering students who wish to improve their understanding of how human activities affect the water cycle and acquire the scientific underpinnings to become proficient in environmental engineering practice. The class will also appeal to science majors interested in water quality management and public health.
