Dr. Silva's research focuses on fundamental processes that regulate the stability and productivity of terrestrial ecosystems at various scales of space and time. Using a multidisciplinary approach, he investigates how interactions between soils, plants and the atmosphere, control the performance and distribution of species and communities, as they influence essential ecosystem services. Dr. Silva's recent projects involve activities in Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico and US, where with help of a vast network of collaborators he investigates the mechanisms behind ongoing changes in natural and managed ecosystems.
