10 Tips to Save 10 Gallons a Day
1. Avoid running the faucet when brushing your teeth, washing your hands, doing dishes, and shaving.
2. Check your appliances, plumbing and garden watering system for leaks and fix them.
3. Take a shower instead of a bath and save 30 gallons.
4. Take a "Navy" shower (turn the water off while you lather); save 8 gallons.
5. Use your dishwasher wisely: a half load cheats you out of efficient water use.
6. Make every laundry load work. Some 50 gallons of water are used to wash a load of clothes.
7. Replace your old toilet for a low-flow one, or reduce the amount of water used per flush (e.g. by placing a brick or filled water bottle in your toilet tank).
8. Defrost your food in the refrigerator instead of under running water.
9. Use a compost pile instead of the garbage disposal; save 2 gallons.
10. Only water your plants when needed and landscape using drought tolerant plants.
