LAWR HP Designjet 5500PS printer (42 in) Printer Documentation

Printing from Adobe applications for Mac OS X

NOTE: Before printing, contact LAWR IT to reserve time and arrange access to the printer. Provide the number of posters you will be printing and an account number for recharge. Funds used for printing recharge must be from a 19900 or Donor account. If you are unsure which account to use, please consult with your department accounting person.

1. Determine what paper you want to use. Do you want heavyweight coated paper (flat finish, no gloss), semi-gloss satin, or productivity photo gloss? Should a 36" wide roll of paper be loaded in the printer, or 42"? Before proceeding, make sure that the appropriate paper is installed in the printer. If paper needs to be changed, instructions can be found in the manual on the printer.

2. Click File >> Document Properties... to verify the size of the document. You will find this information by clicking Description, then looking for Page Size. Make note of the dimensions.

3. Next, click File >> Page Setup... to define the paper size. Select a size that is equal to or larger than the size recorded in Step 2 above. By selecting Settings: Custom Paper Size, you can also configure custom paper dimensions. In general, the printer only prints the defined length from Page Setup -- not the length dimension defined by the Paper Size setting.

4. Make sure that the Format for field is set to Designjet5500ps, Paper Size is the setting just selected, and Orientation is correct. Click OK.

5. If scaling is required to achieve a dimensions that exceed the application's limitations, enter the % enlargement in the box after Scale. Click OK.

6. Press Option+P or click File >> Print to open the Print dialog box.

7. From the Printer drop-down box, select Shared Printers > Designjet5500ps as illustrated below.

8. If you are sending your document to the printer from a computer that is NOT in 120 Veihmeyer Hall (quite likely if you are using a Mac), it is recommended that you schedule a 5 minute delay before the document prints. This will allow you time to walk to Veihmeyer Hall and be present at the beginning of the print job. To schedule your print, click Copies & Pages to open a pull-down window. Select Scheduler. Under Print Document, click in front of At:, put in an appropriate advance time, then click Print.

9. If you have a PowerBook and are in 120 Veihmeyer Hall, just click Print (no need to schedule). In the Dock, click on the Designjet icon to monitor progress.

10. At the printer, you will notice that the LCD screen will flash a message indicating reception of your document. The printer will soon begin to print. If an error is noticed as your document is printed, press the Cancel button on the printer control panel . You can go back to the computer and PPT to make corrections, then submit the document to the printer once again.

11. When the printer is finished printing, it will automatically cut the paper...and eventually go back into standby mode. If you printed more posters than originally planned, contact LAWR IT again to update your print job information. REMINDER: Funds used for printing recharge must be from a 19900 or Donor account. If you are unsure which account to use, please consult with your department accounting person.
