PES Evacuation / Roll Call
The reason for roll taking at the evacuation site is to accurately account for all building occupants so that fire fighters are not searching the building for those already at the evacuation site.
WHEN THE FIRE ALARM (loud piercing noise and strobe light) SOUNDS:
1. Turn off all flames, shut down equipment if needed, take personal belongings, and report to the evacuation assembly area – Wickson Hall lawn sign.
2. Plant Sciences sections and ICP lab will report to the Plant Sciences roll call coordinator at the Plant Sciences orange Flag.
3. LAWR will report to the LAWR flag – Tiva Lasiter is our main roll call person, Christel Cantlin backup
4. Laboratory representatives (or their alternatives if they are absent) will report to the roll call coordinator and give the names of those who were present in the building (office or lab) at the time evacuation begins. EACH lab must have someone reporting to the roll call coordinator
5. When the alarm sounds, the magnetic doors in front of the elevators, in the alcove areas, and some of the corridors will deactivate and close. You will be able to manually push them open.
6. Do not use the elevators when the fire alarm is sounding. If the fire alarm sounds and you are already in the elevator, the elevator will go to the first floor and open. Manually push open the fire doors to exit. If the detector on the first floor is activated, you may arrive at the second floor or the basement (if you are in the north east elevator). The phones in the elevators are linked directly to the fire department.
7. See diagram to exit the basement. There are no fire doors in the basement. Leave the elevator and turn right. Follow the exit signs. The stairs lead to the first floor lobby area near the recycling containers.
8. Stay at the evacuation site until dismissed. At the site, you may be given further instructions.
9. At the time of evacuation, “Do Not Enter” signs will be posted on the main doors. Remember to take your personal belongings (car keys, medication, purse, etc) with you when you evacuate the building. You may not be able to re-enter the building again for a length of time, depending on the nature of the evacuation.
10. If you know of anyone who needs special assistance during an evacuation, please let Dianne Louie, Tiva, or Christel Cantlin know so that we can make arrangements ahead of time.
