The Thayer SSC 105 endowment provides financial support to students who demonstrate academic promise, but have financial constraints that might prevent them from registering for the course. The Thayer endowment was made possible by generous contributions from Jim Thayer, his colleagues at CH2M HILL, alumni of the SSC 105 class, and friends of Jim Thayer. Jim was a member of the SSC 105 class of 1970, who established the fund prior to his death from cancer in 2001. He established this fund because of his love for his soil science profession and because he felt the summer class was the best class he ever took. Jim was a Senior Soil Scientist, Group Leader, and Project Manager in CH2M HILL’s Water Business Group. He brought a straightforward, passionate commitment to professional, community, and family roles throughout his life.

Apply to the course instructor (R.J. Southard or M.J. Singer in 2006), including a brief description of how the course fits into her/his academic plans, a statement of financial needs, and a copy of the most recent academic transcript. Applications must be made by June 1 each year.
