Wasco Series
Wasco Series The Wasco series is found in the San Joaquin valley near Bakersfield. It is a soil formed on young alluvium. Horizons are difficult to see in this profile and few are present because of the short time of development and arid conditions in the region. At the surface is a thin (10 to 20 cm thick) A horizon that overlies a C horizon of partly to unweathered alluvium at depth. This soil is used for many irrigated crops. The leaves visible in the upper part of the photo are from a cotton plant. The lack of horizons and loamy to sandy textures provide for a medium that is easily managed for maximum plant growth.
