HYD 252 Hillslope Geomorphology and Sediment Budgets

Assignments are performed on Saturday field trips.

Homework Project 1: Hillslope Geomorphic Processes

General Objective: Determine which processes are most significant for Coastal Range hillslopes.

This homework project will involve a GIS-based component and a field-based component. For the GIS component, there will be a series of workflows that you will carry out eventually leading to a prediction of the spatial pattern of geomorphic processes for the testbed catchment. For the field-based component you will go out to a selected hilslide, map it, and then analyze the topography for the geomorphic processes.

Assignment 2: Fluvial geomorphology

General Objective: Observe a wide range of bedrock and alluvial river channels and perform calculations associated with fluvial data.

For this homwork there will be a 1-day field trip to Cache Creek to observe Coastal Range bedrock channel processes and morphologies, meandering versus braided alluvial channels, and impacts of gravel mining on alluvial reaches in Cache Creek basin.
