HYD 252 Hillslope Geomorphology and Sediment Budgets


Assignments are performed on Saturday field trips.


Assignment 1: Hillslope Geomorphology

General Objective: Determine which processes are most significant in on a Coastal Range hillslope.

Here is a topo map of the basin in which our hillslope is located. Note the steepness of the hillslopes- about 1 ft vertical for every 2-3 feet horizontal.



Here is a 1m resolution 1998 aerial photo of the area showing the creek draining the basin in blue and the hillslope we will map in red.






Assignment 2: Fluvial geomorphology

General Objective: Observe a wide range of bedrock and alluvial river channels.

Day 1: Coastal Range bedrock channel processes and morphologies, meandering versus braided alluvial channels, and impacts of gravel mining on alluvial reaches in Cache Creek basin.



Day 2: Sierra and Central Valley river systems above and below reservoirs. Assessment of impacts of dams, levees, urbanization, and intensive agriculture.
