ERS 100 - Fall 2001

Introduction to Hydrologic Principles

This class will discuss water in all forms and shapes on different scales. It discusses water from the molecular structure to the global hydrological cycle. Water quality will be investigated when snow becomes rivers and eventually reaches the ocean. Rainfall runoff will be measured in the lab for different landscapes, including city parking lots and forested areas. We follow irrigation water when it infiltrates in the soil and eventually becomes groundwater. We will then follow groundwater on its journey to a pump, where it will appear back on the surface and continue its way to the ocean.

This course exists of two lectures, one laboratory exercise and one discussion session each week. Total course load is 6 units.
